Mumbaikars, get ready for a new AC local train. Central Railways is all set to inaugurate its first-ever air-conditioned suburban train. Suresh Angadi, Minister of State for Railways, will flag off this AC local from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The train will run in the Thane-Vashi-Panvel trans-harbour line.
The first AC local in Mumbai was introduced by Western Railways and now the Central Railway plans to start this new AC local which will have 16 services daily. Manisha Mhaske, 45-year-old female driver of suburban locals, will pilot the Central Railways AC local train on its inaugural journey.
Aiming to provide optimum comfort to passengers, Central Railways first-ever AC local is loaded with swanky features. The new AC local will have air-conditioning system for both passengers and the driver. In each coach, there will be two 15 ton capacity roof mounted package units for cooling. To make the journey comfortable, the EMU rake is provided with secondary air suspension with two air bellows on each bogie.
The interiors of Central Railways first AC local will also sport some modern upgraded design. Seats are ergonomically designed for the comfort of the daily commuters. The windows are wide and double-glass sealed to provide a panoramic view during the journey. There are two sided display and two double sided display in each coach. LED-based display in English and Hindi will also be available.
Special attention has been given to the safety features of Central Railways new AC local. Automatic door closure system will be there in each coach. Modern passenger alarm system has also been incorporated. Each coach has an indication light on both sides. These lights are integrated with alarm chain pulling system. Whenever chain pulling takes place in coaches these lights will glow giving an exact indication to the platform staff for attending emergency.
With the introduction of Central Railways’ new local, there will 16 air-conditioned services running on the trans-harbour line.
