Dussehra is considered a symbol of victory of good over evil. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, exactly 20 days before Diwali. Dussehra is considered one of the holiest days of the year. This day is best for starting any new work.

The festival of Dussehra will be celebrated on Friday, October 15 this year. According to religious beliefs, Mahishasura was killed by Maa Durga. Hence it is also celebrated as Vijaya Dashami.
